RDIF denies rejection of registration of Sputnik V in Brazil

MOSCOW, Jan 18 (PRIME) – Brazil requested more information about the Sputnik V vaccine, not refused to register it, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) denied media reports on January 17.

“Due to incorrect information about rejection of the emergency registration of the Sputnik V vaccine in Brazil that emerged in some media, we inform you that the National Health Regulation Agency (ANVISA) has requested additional information about the Sputnik V vaccine, which we will provide shortly,” the fund said in a statement.

The RDIF and Brazilian pharmaceutical company Uniao Quimica requested emergency registration of the Sputnik V vaccine to the Brazilian Health Regulation Agency (ANVISA), but some media reported that the regulator rejected the request as it did not comply with the regulations.

A request for additional information is a standard procedure, and doesn’t mean rejection of registration. The National Congress of Brazil also approved a law that will allow the country to use any vaccine registered in some other countries, including Russia, if the country’s Senate passes the law.

“In the framework of a disinformation campaign against the Sputnik V vaccine, incorrect information is deliberately spread during the nights and weekends to make the process of scrutiny more difficult,” the fund said.
